This is a great step forward for transparency when it comes to understanding who produces the beer that you’re drinking, read on for more details about the Brewers Association independent craft brewer seal on TapHunter.
What is the Brewers Association Independent Craft Brewer Seal?
The Brewers Association independent craft brewer seal is a way for independent craft brewers to inform consumers that they are independent companies that aren’t owned by any of the major beer conglomerates and that they’ve been certified as independent craft by the BA.
How do you define an American craft brewer you might ask? That’s a good question. The Brewers Association defines an American craft brewer as:
Small: Annual production of six million barrels of beer or less (approximately three percent of U.S. annual sales). Beer production is attributed to the rules of alternating proprietorships.
Independent: Less than 25 percent of the craft brewery is owned or controlled (or equivalent economic interest) by a beverage alcohol industry member that is not itself a craft brewer.
Traditional: A brewer that has a majority of its total beverage alcohol volume in beers whose flavor derives from traditional or innovative brewing ingredients and their fermentation. Flavored malt beverages (FMBs) are not considered beers.
The independent craft brewer seal is a specific way to visually identify whether any particular beer is made by an independent craft brewer or not. Adoption of the seal has been very popular among craft brewers, with nearly 4,000 brewers already adopting the seal according to the Brewers Association.
Where Can I Find the Independent Craft Brewer Seal on TapHunter?

We are proud to be the first digital partner to be working directly with the Brewers Association on this initiative, and believe that it is important for consumers to have access to as much information as possible when making a choice about which products they want to buy and which companies they want to support.
